Baby Bear - Detail
I have embarked on a new direction in my painting, but one that nevertheless grows from the settings of the "Threshold," series. In large response to my recent re-introduction to and immersion in children's stories, I have become influenced by the metaphorical depictions of animals.

Over the past year, I have seen their emergence in my long-practiced, stream-of-consciousness drawing process that provides the content of many of my paintings. With such an unusual and unordered source, these animal images, like all my paintings, do not represent truth or reality but are no less meaningful to me. The creatures allude to roles they might play in myths, folk tales or nursery rhymes, yet they exist in a decidedly grown-up domain and evoke levels of interpretation from the inexpressible and diminishing world of the wild.
